artist statement.

I love telling stories.  It's as simple as that, but the not so simple part is telling the story. Instead of writing to express myself, I choose photography.  I tend to focus more on people, because I believe the viewers of my photographs can relate to the stories of my subjects.  I work mostly in 35mm format, yet enjoy using digital to save money on expensive film. Behind every one of my photographs is a story waiting to be told, waiting to be read, and waiting to be understood. 

hanging around.

When you look at this photograph, what what do you think is going on?  Many people told me that it looked like I had someone/something hanging, and shot their feet while they were in the air.  That is not the case at all, yet the idea of mystery behind the photograph is clearly visible.  The main questions is how did I take this picture?  Well while doing some silly acrobat tricks on the rails of a bridge, I realized that taking a picture of my feet in the air could turn out neat.  I'm my opinion it did!  I shot this photograph using a 35mm camera with black and white film.  I love looking at subjects from different vantage points.  I could have shot this photograph with my whole body leaning over the bridge in the photograph.  Instead I chose to focus on my feet, creating an image that proposed many questions. 

the fence.

"The fence" is a uniquely designed photograph taken by me of me.  I enjoy being outdoors, where the vibes from the earth are so peaceful.  I choose to take a picture of nature in this set up (flowers, fence, trees, grass, etc.), showing how peaceful the earth truly is.  I used a 35mm film camera with black and white film to shoot this photograph.  I set up a tripod with a self timer so that I was able to be in the picture myself.  I love the composition of this photograph, where I am placed off to the left side, yet there are flowers on the right side to help balance out the photograph.  In the middle of the  photograph is the fence, which brings the whole picture together, kind of like becoming one with nature.
